Frequently Asked Questions

1. To be eligible for income-based housing, your income must be at or below 50% of the HUD area median income for your family size. The income limits can be found at wpcog.org/regional-housing-authority.

2. Your waiting list position will change. WPCOG uses a preference-scoring model. As applicants continue to apply, your waiting list position will change depending on the preferences and scores of other applications. Your position will change many times as you wait for assistance.

3. You must keep your mailing address, email address, and phone number updated at all times. You can update your contact information, and check your waiting list position, at housing.wpcog.net. If we cannot contact you, then you may be dropped from the waiting list.

4. We will keep our waiting list open until we receive approximately 2,500 applications. Once we close our waiting list, we must offer assistance to all applicants on the waiting list before we can accept new applicants.

5. We serve Alexander, Burke, Caldwell, and Catawba counties.

6. Applicant families must meet the following requirements:

  • Complete application process
  • Meet income limits specified by HUD. This is generally 50% or lower of the median income for the service area.
  • Sign required consent forms
  • Pass screening process
